One of the easiest DIY items to keep your HVAC unit working, and working efficiently, is to change your air filters. You should ideally be changing it once a month (especially if you have pets that shed as their fur, hair, and dander can get caught in the filter easily), but air filters should be changed every 90 days max!

But here’s a fun life hack for you: next time you change your air filter, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. As the cool air comes out of the vents, a fresh scent of lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, or whatever black magic you’ve chosen will lightly fill your space.

What about when the scent fades away?! Let that be your signal to replace your air filter.

But if it’s only been a couple weeks or so, go ahead and just add a few more drops to it and your home will be smelling wonderfully again in no time.
